My trip in CPH and Malmo was fantastic.Įdit: my friend who went through customs and I compared our passports to verify what I said about customs- I don’t have any Netherlands stamps from any connection flights. This article outlines the timeline of events before, during, and after the assassination of John F. Idk, it was frustrating.īut aside from all that, the flights itself was smooth- light turbulence. But coming back from CPH, my sister kept getting her passport checked & interviewed/screened by delta employees. My sister had 1 outside of her trips with me. I’ve been loyal to them for years and keep promoting them to my friends □ I never had to go through customs when I had layovers in AMS and neither did my sister precovid - I think I had about 3 connection flights there. I have no clue what happened this time around - I just know the entire flight to CPH and back was such a hot mess! So many cancellations and rescheduling it almost made me want to cancel my delta credit card and membership. I didn’t originally have a long layover - it was 2 hours, but delays made it 5 hours. But then they won't have to clear customs on arrival in Copenhagen, which you will need to do coming direct there from a US airport. Since the Netherlands and Denmark are both in the Schengen area, anybody flying US->AMS->CPH will have to clear customs in Amsterdam, this predates Covid by a while (what is new recently is staffing shortages making customs in Amsterdam possibly take hours to get through). Maybe if you had a really long layover they didn't want to deal with your bags, although if they sell you the ticket they should still deal with the bags at the connection. Coming back to the US you would need to clear customs at JFK and recheck your bag, but that is true even if the two flights were on the same airline. But they are closely linked and bags should transfer-actually in this case, since there is no outgoing US customs, bags should transfer to any airline. It’s crazy.ĭelta is a part-owner of KLM/Air France and they codeshare almost any flight out of their hubs (which includes JFK), although when I just looked at LAX->CPH flights through JFK it is an actual Delta flight from JFK->CPH. Our friend barely made it in time for their flight. ![]() I never had to do that in my experience precovid. Our friend who flew to CPH before me had AMS for a layover. When I talked to a few of my friends who also travelled overseas post pandemic, they had horrible experiences as well with KLM! It was so crazy! So I imagined KLM probably cancelled our flights originally since I did get a change notice a few days before we took off to CPH. My delta app was not updating! It just said TBD! They also cancelled our flights back! And when they finally rebooked us (after 24 hours) we had 2 layovers to get to our connection flight back to LA. I also figured this is a new protocol □□♀️Īlso, KLM was horrible! We couldn’t find our gates at JFK - it wasn’t on the monitors, we had to really hassle workers to find where we had to go. I didn’t really ask because I was more focused on getting my sister to get through TSA since it was so busy. I think it’s because I had to switch airlines? Even though KLM is one of Deltas partners, I think I flew delta first and then KLM.
